Susan B. Collingwood provides a wide range of legal services to the Colleges based at the Health Science Center. She provides legal advice and assistance, her legal practice encompassing the wide range of legal issues encountered in the education of future health professionals. Areas of her responsibility include patient care issues, research issues, student and employment issues, liability matters, and issues engendered in the practice of medical professions by the Colleges based at the Health Science Center.
Before joining the Office of the Vice President and General Counsel, Ms. Collingwood practiced litigation in Orlando for a number of years with the firm of Fisher, Rushmer, Werrenrath, Keiner, Wack and Dickson, P.A. She represented physicians in medical malpractice actions, as well as specialized in litigating complex commercial disputes. Ms. Collingwood began her legal career with the firm of David U. Strawn, Attorney at Law, also specializing in complex commercial litigation. Before entering the law, she was a chemist in the Department of Biochemistry, University of Florida College of Medicine.
Ms. Collingwood earned her juris doctor degree with honors in 1988 from the University of Florida College of Law, where she received 5 American Jurisprudence Book Awards and was inducted into the Order of the Coif. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in chemistry from Indiana University in 1980.
Ms. Collingwood joined the University of Florida Office of the Vice President and General Counsel in 1995. She is admitted to practice in the Middle and Southern U.S. District Courts of Florida and the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals.
