Assistant General Counsel

Imogene L. CatheyImogene L. Cathey is an Assistant General Counsel specializing primarily in labor and employment matters. Prior to joining the University of Florida Office of the Vice President and General Counsel, Ms. Cathey was an associate with the law firms of Shook, Hardy & Bacon and Trenam-Kemker law firm in Tampa. While in private practice, Ms. Cathey represented employers throughout the country in various matters, including claims of unlawful discrimination, issues involving the Family and Medical Leave Act, and contract claims.

Ms. Cathey received her Juris Doctor, with Honors, from the University of Florida Levin College of Law in 1999. As a law student, she served as a research assistant for the Center for Governmental Relations. She was also a teaching assistant in the legal research and writing courses. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science, summa cum laude, from Florida A&M University in 1996.

Ms. Cathey is a member of the National Association of College and University Attorneys, the Josiah T. Walls Bar Association and the Eighth Judicial Circuit Bar Association.

Ms. Cathey is admitted to practice in Florida and the District of Columbia. She is also admitted to the Northern, Middle and Southern Districts of Florida and the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals.
